The Christopher family originally purchased the 37-acre residential farm property in the spring of 1997. The farm consisted of a ranch-style house, pole barn, machine shop, old farm silo and a ¾ acre fishing pond.
Previous to the purchase by the Christopher Family the property was a working Horse and Dairy Farm owned by Herb Hinz that had been in operation for over 75 years. Prize horses were raised by Mr. Hinz. His farm consisted of a house, large horse barn, equipment sheds, mink cages, and grazing land.
Over the next ten years starting in 1997 a series of acquisitions took place that has created the Christopher Farm & Gardens. Currently, the property in total consists of approximately 500 acres with over 6,000 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline. Today 300 acres are devoted to leased crop production by local crop and dairy farmers. There are over 100 acres of natural woodlands and prairies. The highlights of the property include extensive flower gardens, vegetable gardens, greenhouses, fruit orchards, walking paths, and 3 stocked fishing ponds.
